Self-described "band of freaks" Black Bordello's fixation with the macabre shined through on last year's 'Backache' and has continued on their blood-sucking new single 'Leeches'. Anchored by a hypnotic bass line, vocalist/songwriter Sienna Bordello's characterful vocals channel nuances of greats Patty Smith and PJ Harvey but with a distinct sense of originality; all the while eerie sax blasts and ominous piano parts ring out. Echoing the alien-like qualities of some of the synth sounds on the track, 'Leeches' has landed with an extra-terrestrial video directed by Matty Mancey-Jones in conjunction with Foreign Body Productions. Intended as a comment on the strangeness of living in 2020 (modern plague-era Britain), darkly-clad life forms dance across deserted cities and beaches in search of interaction.
